Purpose:

The Human Resource Generalist position works closely with senior HR management. This position reports to the Director, Human Resource/Leadership & Staff Development. The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and carrying out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefit administration, human resource information systems, recruitment, employee and labor relations, training and onboarding, policy implementation, and employee law compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

HR Generalist performs a wide range of duties, which may vary according to organizational needs.  Example duties and responsibilities are listed below:

Benefits Administration

  • Leads the administration and development of benefit orientations and other benefits training for all staff.
  • Recommends changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at staff satisfaction and retention that are in support of desired organizational culture.
  • Manages, administers, communicates, and reconciles benefit plans, manages annual renewal and open enrollment process, and completes necessary compliance notices and annual reports

 

Human Resource Information Systems

  • Acts as key contact and subject matter expert around HRIS system and maintenance of Paylocity database.
  • Leads on strategic system updates, upgrades and maintenance
  • Increases effective staff use of HRIS system, including use of Self-Service features

 

Recruitment

  • Manages recruitment and selection processes, including job postings, job descriptions, sourcing list, resume screening, background checks, reference checks, offers, independent contractor and temporary staff administration, and onboarding
  • Creates and maintains metrics for workforce planning, recruitment, diversity management, turnover and headcount reporting, and training
  • Implements and manages new employee orientation training program and onboarding
  • Reviews and refines, as necessary, procedures for identifying, recruiting, and selecting applicants for employment, and ensure that these procedures are compliant with Federal, state, and local laws.

 

Employee Relations/Labor Relations

  • Facilitates and supports communication and relationship building between staff and managers
  • Understands, implements, and enforces Staff Union contract and SEIU Handbook relating to the employee experience.
  • Schedules and conducts Exit Interviews
  • Manages grievance and other labor relations processes

 

Policy/Compliance

  • Monitors adherence and maintains HCIIMK policies, procedures and practices
  • Leads organizational compliance with all existing legislations. Including government-reporting requirements related to unemployment, EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, DOL, NLRA, OSHA, and WC.
  • Prepares information requested or required for compliance with laws.  Serves as the contact with the employment law attorney and outside government agencies
  • Conducts separation process including severance agreements, termination letters, cancellations, unemployment, and COBRA
  • Ensures ongoing Compliance with SEIU Ethics code including documentation, training and ethical inquiry resolution
  • Manages staff leaves and ensure compliance with policy and leave laws (FMLA, usera)
  • Manages injury and accident reporting, ensuring OSHA and Workers Compensation compliance

 

Other

  • Assists in the design, development, and implementation training programs including safety, government regulations, and manager training
  • Acts as HCIIMK safety committee member and provide training recommendations and injury reviews
  • Assists and directs Wage Garnishments and other payroll deductions and processing
