Job Status: | Full Time |
Who we are:
SEIU Healthcare IL IN MO KS is a dynamic, action-oriented union of over 100,000 healthcare and childcare workers throughout Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Kansas. As one of the largest and fastest growing unions in the country, we are committed to building power for low- and moderate-income families by organizing workers for economic and social justice. We believe in a society defined by freedom and justice, where we can all have quality education, health care and jobs, and where we all can live a full and plentiful life of our choosing. SEIU HCIIMK’s mission is to organize together to build power and demand and win social and economic justice for our communities.
The Opportunity:
We are in a unique moment of opportunity to rapidly grow worker power through the healthcare and childcare industries. Demographic shifts and an aging population are creating demand for resources to support working families that have grown scarce. Meanwhile, workers’ voices are rising for collective action and justice, growing political power across our geographies. Recognizing that the healthcare and childcare systems in our country will change and the only question is how, the need to build a comprehensive vision and strategic, multi-faceted campaigns that grow power and union density for these largely unorganized workforces is more urgent than ever.
The Missouri Organizing Coordinator will work with SEIU HCIIMK’s leadership team to develop comprehensive organizing campaigns that continue to build worker strength in our industries by bringing new workers into the union, creates new paths for workers access to unionize, and builds public awareness and support for worker demands.
Role Purpose:
The Missouri Organizing Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a robust, strategic organizing program to organize new, not-yet-union workers into our union. They will be responsible for supporting campaigns that weave together militant worker action, public campaign activities, a political and legislative agenda, and innovative tools such as social media or digital organizing activities to grow our membership base and/or to create easier pathways for workers to unionize. The Missouri Organizing Coordinator will also be responsible for leading and developing teams of organizers and workers with the goal of growing their capacity to organize, thinking strategically about how to build worker power, and to take on increasing levels of responsibility. The Missouri Organizing Coordinator will work under the direction of the Missouri Division Director and in partnership with the Organizing Director.
