Location: Hybrid – Approximately 80% remote with 20% onsite requirements based out of Chicago, IL
The Chief of Data Management and Analytics (CDMA) position will report to the Secretary Treasure and partner with Executive Leadership, Industry Division leadership and will spearhead the organization's efforts to develop a centralized data infrastructure, implement data governance policies, and drive the adoption of data analytics to inform decision-making and operational efficiency. This leader will oversee the Data Team as well as the strategic use of data across all levels of the organization, ensuring data integrity, security, and leveraging data analytics for strategic advantage.
The CDMA role is tailored to not only bring data management and analytics expertise to the organization but also to deeply understand and align with the specific needs and challenges of member-driven and particularly labor organizations. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of leadership, technical acumen, strategic vision, and experience within similar organizational contexts to leverage data for meaningful engagement and decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a wide range of duties which may vary according to the need. Examples include:
Data Infrastructure Development - Lead the design and implementation of a robust, scalable data warehouse that integrates data from various sources within the organization, ensuring a single source of truth. Oversee the selection and implementation of data management and analytics tools and platforms that align with the organization's needs and strategic objectives.
Data Governance and Policy - Develop and implement comprehensive data governance policies to manage data access, quality, and compliance across the organization, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Establish and maintain data standards and practices that ensure data integrity and security, including protocols for data storage, backup, and disaster recovery.
Data Analytics and Decision Support - Drive the development and utilization of analytical models and reporting tools that provide actionable insights, supporting strategic decision-making across the organization. Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making, providing the leadership and teams with the training, tools, and support needed to leverage data analytics effectively.
Team Leadership and Management - Build and lead a team of data professionals responsible for data management, analysis, and reporting. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation in data analytics and its applications to support the organization's goals.
In this senior leadership role, the candidate will oversee the Data Team and must be able to organize their time, develop and carry out plans with minimal supervision. They should have superior leadership abilities to mentor and develop their team members to reach their full potential. They must also be able to receive direction from and interact with their immediate supervisor and other union leadership.

Leadership qualities are crucial, with a strong emphasis on the CDMA's ability to build and lead a team, foster data literacy across the organization, and drive innovation through the adoption of new technologies and continuous process optimization. Communication skills are also vital, particularly the ability to convey complex data insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that data-driven strategies are accessible and actionable.
May be required to work long and irregular hours, and to work on weekends and holidays when necessary. Travel may be required within our geographies and to campaigns or events as needed.
Key Qualification Criteria:
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in data management and analytics, with a strong preference for individuals who have worked within member-driven organizations. Experience within a labor organization is particularly valued, highlighting an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in managing and leveraging data in such contexts.
