The Helen Miller Member Education and Training Center (METC) is an educational organization providing instruction and training to workers represented by members of Service Employees International Union Healthcare Illinois/Indiana/Missouri/Kansas (SEIU HCIIMK). Type: Must reside in Illinois; Remote/Hybrid (must be able to attend required in-person/onsite trainings, meetings, and events)
Role Purpose:
METC is committed to ensuring access to training opportunities for Public and Private Homecare workers, Child Care Providers and other Healthcare Workers that are represented by our Local. The METC runs specific training programs that are governed by collectively bargained agreements and/or other contracts. The Training and Outreach Assistant (Assistant) is primarily responsible for supporting the Specialist and participants to ensure training runs smoothly, all compliance requirements are met and that attendees have a good experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Assistant’s primary training responsibility is verifying all registrants contact information, set up Zoom screen display to reflect registrant’s ID numbers (Union/Gateways), create a record of all attendees, mark attendance, facilitate e-sign in & outs, and complete a Class Close Out Report – CCOR. Additionally, the Assistant will have outreach, enrollment and attendance responsibilities/goals, as well as perform any or a combination of the duties and responsibilities listed below, depending on the assignment.
- Set a professional, competent, efficient tone for the classes.
- Model and maintain a positive atmosphere of respect and confidentiality.
- Travel to class venues within the State of Illinois or other areas. When needed, travel overnight for training away from your home.
- With the support of the local venue, ensure A/V systems are functioning correctly.
- Assist participants with access to and during various courses online in a virtual classroom environment. Working closely with Zoom, and other software.
- Ensure complete and accurate records of training participants including class attendance and work status.
- Assist participants with navigating Zoom features, including chat, audio and video settings.
- Assist with training new Assistants, as needed.
- Collaborate with fellow Assistants, Specialists and Managers to develop and test best practices for field assistance.
- Participate in staff development meetings and attend training/conferences to continually update adult-learner assistance skills and materials.
- Rotate work hours (nights and weekends) to cover METC responsibilities.
- Participate in staff meetings and other meetings as needed.
- Keep an accurate inventory of supplies (handouts, dummies, sanitizing items, etc.) and request additional supplies as needed, as well as assist with coordination and distribution.
- Generate and send CCOR/updates to program team, training manager and other METC staff.
- Continuously improve field assistance skills based on feedback from your supervisor
- Other duties as requested by METC program team and METC management
Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The Assistant must be able to act and organize their time independently. They must also be able to receive direction from and interact with the Specialists, METC management and staff, as well as other Union officers and staff when it becomes necessary in the daily operation of the METC.
Working Conditions:
The Assistant must have the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends. Job requires occasional minimal lifting of up to 50lbs of boxes and shipping packages.
Key Qualification Criteria:
- They must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and qualities:
- Experience in the care provider field, such as: in-home care, nursing home, adult foster home, long-term care facility, familial care, etc.; or a support person such as a case manager, social worker, or other related experience.
- Formal or informal field assistance experience, preferably with health care professionals/workers and/or in an adult education setting
- Demonstrated respect for and ability to work in a diverse setting and with diverse populations (ethnic, language, racial, etc.).
- The ability to work independently and remotely
- Highly proficient technology skills and previous experience with virtual platforms like Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams, with a reliable device and internet connection
- Private and professional location to conduct work while working remotely (home office or similar environment)
- Ability to transport and lift, up to 30 lbs.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- A commitment to treating coworkers and participants with respect
- Readiness to work occasional long hours, and/or some weekends, and engage in in- state travel for professional development
- Valid driver’s license, in good standing, and a reliable vehicle for travel
Preferred Qualifications - Candidates with one or more of the following are preferred:
- Spanish bilingual including reading and writing
- Training facilitation experience preferably with health care professionals
Salary and Benefits:
Salary: $22.94 - $25.54/ Hourly
